The Saltiness of Life
1 Corinthians 10:1-11 “Yet God was not pleased with most of them”
The children of Israel leaving Egypt compared to us living in Christ today.
Judgment Day
Saved by Grace
Wrong Motivations?
-Saved by grace?
-As you seek after the Lord, He causes you to grow
Sin/Evil
-Did God create evil?
–No, He gave free-will
What is sin and evil
-Walking outside the commandments of God
-Trusting our own judgment to build secure safe life
If we are saved by grace, why should we not sin?
–John 14:23-24 NIV “Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.”
–Obedience is an expression of our love.
-Sin is the opposite of the greatest commandments (Love God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself)
–Sin destroys relationships
—How can we claim to serve a God that focuses on restoring relationships, while ourselves are continually destroying them?
Matthew 5:13 NIV “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Jesus give ultimate purpose to our lives
-We get the privilege of having the Son of God live through us
Idols / Excuses
-Job, Sports, Movies, Marriage, Children, Social Media
-Marriage and Children
“A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe does seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.”
“A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe does seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.”
“And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us we will not fear, for God has willed his truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo! his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him.”
“That Word above all earthly powers no thanks to them abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever!”
