I AM the True Vine
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.” -John 15:1
You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine;
you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land. -Psalms 80:8
Isaiah 5:1-7
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” -John 15:5
To Be or Not to Be, That is the question.
To Abide (Remain) or Not Abide, That is the question.
How Am I Not Abiding?
-Excuses
When we say, “Well, that’s how just I am. I can’t change,” we are completely denying God in His fullness. We are completely denying God in His fullness. We are denying God’s sovereignty over our lives, Christ’s redemptive work for our sins, and the Holy Spirit’s power to transform and lead us.
-Good Enough
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin. -Psalms 19:12-13
James 4:7-10
How Do I Abide/Remain
So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. -1 John 2:24
Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us. -1 John 3:24
Pruning?
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. -James 1:2-4
