Ecclesiastes 9
Ecclesiastes 9:1-6
- This is within the under the the sun mentality – oustside of the eternal perspective.
- A relationship with God proves so much in our life on earth
- Example: Galatians 5:22-23 (Fruit of the Spirit)
- Yet, living a Christ centered life (doing good) does not guarantee any extra days on this earth.
Ecclesiastes 9:7-9
- This is a calling to remember to live in the moment and enjoy what God has given us
- Matthew 6:25-34 (NLT)
- “34 So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.“
Ecclesiastes 9:10
- Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.
- We are to give our best because we cannot get back our days once we take our last breath.
- Are we giving our best on simply meaningless things or are we doing meaningful things?
- Ephesians 2:8-10
- James 2:18-20
- Matthew 5:14-16
- Reasons for Good Works
- God calls us to good works as believers
- Show our faith in God
- Shine the light for others to notice God and to praise Him
- The selflessness that we show in the good that we do is an example of the love of Jesus.
- This is part of fulfilling the calling of the Great Commission
Ecclesiastes 9:11-12
- There is much in life that we cannot control
- We do not control the number of days we have to live
Ecclesiastes 9:13-18
- The wisdom that is shown is quickly forgotten by those here on earth
- Yet, it is better to be wise and to listen to wisdom even if it is contrary to foolishness of someone in higher ranking
- Malachi 3:16-18
“Let us look to live each day as if it could be our last, recognizing how much we can be doing for the Kingdom if we live with this mindset.”
